AT The King’s School in Sydney, boarders have access to a wide range of after-school tutors to help with their homework and study.
The single-sex school, which sits on a sprawling campus in Paramatta in Western Sydney, runs what it calls a patron and tutor program for the boys.
Academically minded old boys from the school provide after-hours tutoring to students to help them in their own specialist subjects.
“It’s just like a free tutoring service. Those boys essentially help all the boarders every night with their prep,” says Jackie Camilleri, deputy head of academics at the school.
“They’re there to guide the boys not just with their academics and subject by subject support, but also their organisation and their mindset. They talk to the boys about everything.”
The school’s Centre for Leadership and Leaning – essentially its library – is open every night and has tutors all students can book online, if they need help that patrons at the boarding houses can’t provide.
There is also a Saturday and Sunday tutoring service, which students fit around their sports and Ms Camilleri says is used a lot by Years 11 and 12 students.
