Michelle
Biology and Chemistry tutor

My passion for teaching and academic success was inspired by my teachers at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls and also the private tutor I had for Chemistry.

I studied Natural Sciences at The University of Cambridge where I was stretched to the highest level to acquire a depth of knowledge which I impart to my tutees. Whilst at University I studied a module in the Psychology of Education and this along with my own experience of the benefits of having teachers who could explain difficult concepts in a way that I was able to relate to made me decide to get into teaching as soon as possible.

Over the last 12 years I have held the posts of Head of Science and Biology at a local independent schools. Where I have had experience of helping pupils with a wide range of abilities to achieve their very best in Science. Whether that be preparing them to get the A* grade for Veterinary Medicine or helping them to get the grade 5 they needed to study to become a paramedic at college. In recent years I have trained to become an AQA A level examiner and Edexcel GCSE examiner. This training has been invaluable in helping pupils to improve their exam technique by understanding the questions being asked and showing them how to apply their knowledge accurately.

Whilst playing football, running and science are three of my passions in life I understand that not everyone feels the same. I know some of you as parents will have heard comments such as 'why do I have to study Science? What is the point if I don't want to work in a lab?' This is something I have come across many times but let me assure you that as Science is all around us I can ignite a spark for Science in pupils who in their own words 'would rather study other things.'
